Awards Program Description

The SCAN Quality Paving Awards Program is designed to recognize highway concrete pavements constructed at the highest level of quality in the seven southeast SCAN States. The award program recognizes agencies, contractors and engineers who completed outstanding projects. A panel of industry professional representing contractors, DOT engineers and FHWA will judge the entries. Projects may be visited by judging panel members.

Award Categories

The annual award program recognizes and honors ALL deserving projects in the seven SCAN States in the following categories.

1.	Quality in Concrete Pavement Construction This category includes new construction, reconstruction and overlays.
2.	Quality in Concrete Pavement Restoration This category includes all types of concrete pavement restoration work.
3.	Innovations Any unique concept which advances concrete pavement technology and applications are eligible. Innovations in areas such as research, design, traffic management, materials and testing, innovative contracting will be considered. Projects in this category may also be nominated in Categories 1 and 2

Eligibility

•	Projects may be nominated by agencies or contractors for concrete paving projects where the pavement is completed and opened to traffic during calendar year 2008. More than one paving project may be nominated from a State.
•	Nominations will only be considered if received or postmarked no later than March 31, 2009
•	All applicable sections of the nomination form must be completed.

Awards
The projects recognized with the Quality Award will be announced in early April 2009.

Nomination Process
The nomination form represents the minimum requirements for submitting a project. Any additional information that will aid the review panel in evaluating the project can be included. Do not submit plan sheets or copies of specifications and other such documents. Please be specific when completing the nomination form.

Each entry must include the following:

•	The completed nomination form.
•	No more than 5 photographs size 5x7 or 8x10 with a glossy finish. Slides, videos or photocopies are not acceptable. Electronic cameras with color laser prints may be used as long as the image has a minimum measurement of 5x7, and a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and a CD with the picture files is included. Photographs must be professional quality suitable for publication.
•	Two sets of the completed submittal package (bound).
